Block from the Beach

The Coral Cottage had all of the basics this family wanted: proximity to the beach, plenty of bedrooms and an unbeatable price that left enough room for them to renovate the house to fit their needs and personalities.

The Homeowners

Kris and Leslie previously lived tiny, in a two-bedroom trailer with their two daughters, but were ready to stretch their legs in a more spacious vacation home in North Carolina.

BEFORE: The Kitchen

Though no major repairs were needed in the kitchen and dining area, the finishings needed some serious modernizing.

AFTER: The Kitchen

The floors were in great shape to stick around through the renovations, and a fresh paint job gave the room the feeling of home the couple was looking for in the Coral Cottage.

Finishing touches, like these wicker dining chairs picked out by their daughters, helped Kris and Leslie bring their dream vacation home to life.

New stainless steel applicances and lighting fixtures were a must for the renovation kitchen and dining space.

Kris and Leslie chose glass subway tile for their new kitchen backsplash, installed new cabinets up to the ceiling and replaced the old countertop with custom granite.

Pendant lighting for the kitchen bartop provides ambience and warmth for cozy conversation while cooking.

BEFORE: The Living Room

Though not much serious work was needed in the house's main living area, it was still begging for some design TLC.

What a difference new furniture and fresh paint make!

BEFORE: The Upper Deck

The Coral Cottage is definitely not short on outdoor living space with its wraparound upper deck and plenty of space and landscaping below. But both needed a touch of work to make them both safe and enjoyable.

AFTER: The Upper Deck

Leslie immediately claimed this corner as her personal reading nook upon completion of renovations.

Each seating area takes advantage of the privacy as well as the great view the upper deck provides.

Small touches, like accent pillows for chairs and flowers on side tables, take an area like this from "deck" to "outdoor living."

AFTER: The Patio

After removing a troublesome tree and a mound of dirt in the way, Kris and Leslie's landscaper created this second outdoor seating area on the ground level.

AFTER: The Patio

While the upper deck is also a perfect spot for entertaining, this ground level patio is great for a shadier option on hot summer days.

AFTER: The Patio

The patio provides plenty of places for guests to chat, and the seat wall helps separate it from the rest of the expansive front yard.

And it's a great spot for keeping an eye on the kids from the deck above!
