Kitchen island cabinets are an easy place to add simple accessories like door handles and knobs. Choose decorative knobs for a splash of style or opt for sleek handles to further accent the look of a contemporary kitchen. Cabinets also come in a wide variety of options, such as glass-front styles that allow for the showcasing of colorful kitchen bowls or unique china pieces.

Other kitchen island components and accessories include the easy addition of end pieces, like a knife block or small shelving unit that leaves room for storing cookbooks, appliances and other useful kitchen items. These pieces make it easier to keep food preparation contained to one spot while also allowing for excess items to be stored for later use.

One very useful consideration for kitchen island design is whether or not you would like to have accessible outlets. This is especially important if you plan to use your kitchen island for food preparation. Blenders, mixers and food processors are just a few of the devices that will require an outlet for use. Many kitchen islands will also benefit from an extra sink area, making cleanup more convenient.
