Real estate expert Donna Freeman begins her assessment with the exterior, nothing that it is cozy but needs a little work. Inside, she finds that the living and family rooms are cluttered, and the sole bathroom--which is a bold black and white--is in bad shape. There's also a room that appears to have no specific purpose.
Next up is designer Lisa LaPorta, who lays out a plan to get everything spruced up before the open house. She intends to focus on the family room, catchall room and bathroom. Here's how:
Step 1: Scrub a dub dub. Wipe dingy areas clean to make them sparkle at the open house.
Step 2: Bing-bang-boom! Demolish features that make spaces look small to buyers.
Step 3: Heave ho. Clear away the clutter that's blocking the way to offers.
Helping LaPorta seek out the value are carpenters Steve Hanneman, Brooks Utley and Adam Hughes.
