The ceiling border was scraped off the wall with a mixture of equal parts of vinegar and water. The new crown molding that replaced it is a simple way to add extra value to a room. The homeowners' furniture gets refinished by applying liquid sander, some primer and then a coat of brown paint.

The 1970s den (not shown) made a miraculous jump into the future with a fresh coat of paint, furniture that fits the scale of the room, a designer carpet and accessories.
