A Peachy Cocktail for Summer Sipping

This bourbon-based cocktail features peach bitters and a pecan-peach water to make use of your harvest.

The Atlanta outpost of super-chef Laurent Tourondel's BLT Steak offers a local spin on its cocktail program with this Sweet Auburn Cocktail created by sommelier Dorine Buche.

Named for Atlanta's most famous historic African-American neighborhood, center of commerce and social life, the Sweet Auburn Cocktail makes delicious use of Atlanta's regional harvest of peaches and pecans to impart farm-fresh flavor.

Sweet Auburn Cocktail 

From Dorine Buche, BLT Steak Atlanta, Atlanta, Georgia

  • 2 ounces Woodford Reserve
  • 1.5 ounces Pecan Peach Water*
  • 1 dash peach bitters
  • Lemon twist, for garnish

In a mixing glass, combine all ingredients with ice.

Stir for 30 seconds.

Strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a large lemon twist.

*Pecan Peach Water recipe

  • 1 quart of pecan pieces
  • 2 peaches roughly chopped
  • 2 quarts water
  • ½ quart honey

On a baking sheet, spread pecans evenly and toast in a 300 degree preheated oven for 15 minutes or until oils begin to come out of the pecans. Bring water to a boil on a stovetop. Reduce to a simmer and add honey and peaches. Add pecan pieces to the water and honey mixture and allow to infuse for 30 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool down. Strain first through a chinois then through a coffee filter to remove sediment and solids.
