Flying High

The roof of this structure in Steve Martino’s design for the Stiteler Garden in Tuscan, Arizona, is reminiscent of the wings of an airplane. This effect is intensified by the bird’s-eye views from the elevated deck of the landscape below.

Horizontal Lines

Designing the lines of a garden can be simple. In this garden, the design mimics the horizontal lines of the home. This design allows the eye to appreciate the expanse of this contemporary garden.

Roof Terrace Design

A central dining area gives the garden a useful focal point, both visually and practically. The large skylights were a potential problem but have been cleverly integrated into the new garden design.

Lighting for the View

Lighting on a balcony is subtle so that distant city lights can be enjoyed at night.

Desert Fire

This bright red wall looks dazzling in the intense Las Vegas sun. The wall is positioned close to a tree so the shadows cast by the branches add texture to the smooth surface. The taupe soft furnishings offer a soothing contrast.

Beachfront Beauty

Salt-laden, windswept grasses and scattered rocks mirror the naturalized plants on the beach beyond this garden. Designed by Ted Smyth, the low subtle planting in this garden in New Zealand allows an uninterrupted view of the roaring ocean.
