Recycle an old pair of jeans to make a cute cover for a plain wooden crate.
Crafts expert Sharon Schuster explains how to transform a wooden crate into a useful piece of art.

Denim-Covered Crate

Materials:

wooden crate
blue paint
blue jeans
scissors
clothespins
staple gun
round or square legs (optional)

Steps:


  1. Paint the crate blue.

  2. Cut an old pair of jeans in half up the back and line it around the crate. Hold in place with clothespins.

  3. Use a staple gun to attach the jeans to the crate. Conceal the staples underneath the belt loops. Tuck the jeans underneath the crate and staple to the bottom.

  4. If you prefer, glue or screw round or square legs onto the bottom four corners of the crate.

CD Storage Rack

Materials:

wooden crate
black paint
sheet music
decoupage medium

Steps:


  1. Paint the crate black.

  2. Photocopy sheet music and then rip the paper into pieces.

  3. Use decoupage medium to adhere the paper to the crate.

Cat Bed

Materials:

wooden crate
paint in color of choice
cat-themed rubber stamps
fabric of choice
scissors
ball of yarn

Steps:


  1. Remove the first three slats on one side of the crate.

  2. Paint the crate.

  3. Decorate with cat-themed rubber stamps.

  4. Cut and sew old fabric remnants to make a little bed for the cat.

  5. Add a ball of yarn to the bed for a little kitty accessory.

Wagon Toy Box

Materials:

wooden crate
red paint
round plaques
black paint
wood glue
thick dowel
silver paint
electric drill
smaller dowel
adhesive-foam characters

Steps:


  1. Paint the crate red.

  2. Paint round plaques black and glue or screw on as wheels.

  3. Paint a thick dowel silver and use as the handle.

  4. Screw a hole into the end and slide in a smaller piece of dowel to form a T-handle.

  5. Stick adhesive-foam characters onto the crate to decorate.
