Operational Home Office

Now the TV is out of the way on the wall, where it can be viewed from nearly any area of the room, including the fold-out bed. The filing cabinet on the floor below it holds the multipurpose office machine and in/out boxes.

They are ready to reclaim their space and have turned to professional organizer Pam Socolow for help. The goal is to keep the designation as an office, but also allow room for guests to stay. With this in mind, Socolow lays out her plan. She emphasizes the importance of making the space multifunctional, which means bringing in new furniture pieces and office equipment as well as making use of the vertical space.

To create color in the room, she chooses a pale green and warm sand color to paint the walls. She also wants to change out the carpets and replace the oversize ceiling fan with a streamlined light fixture.

A new executive desk and floating shelves above it conserve precious floor space.

The Hocksteins' new space is finally in working order. Before, the room was overflowing with paper, clothes and furniture, but now it is a functional office and guest room for the whole family to enjoy.
