Before: Cluttered and Crowded
Wendy Sykora lives in a townhouse with a small guest bedroom that doubles as her craft room. In the beginning it wasn't a problem, but as her hobby continues to grow, the space becomes more and more crowded. When her niece and nephew come to stay she has to pump up the air mattresses, bulldoze space and hope that things don't come toppling down during the night.

She's fed up and calls in professional organizer Susan Sabo, who decides that the room needs a theme and furniture that is versatile to create a craft room by day and a guest room by night.

First things first. Sykora and Sabo began sorting, tidying and tossing out years' worth of stuff from the 10-1/2' x 7' room. To make the sorting easier, they cart things to another room so they can spread things out a bit.

Buried beneath some of that clutter are cherished heirlooms and souvenirs, including an antique fan and fabrics from Sykora's Asian travels. Just like that a theme is established for the room, and the pair decide on a warm paint color that complements that theme.
