Before: Clutter in Every Corner
Celeste Alexander is fed up with the clutter-filled mess that has become her dining room. An opera coach living with her family of four in a beautiful historic brownstone, she and her family have been using this large room as a catchall instead of a family gathering place.
Alexander has long had plans to get it in order — they bought the house 30 years ago — but her busy family life has kept her from doing so. She decides to enlist the help of professional organizer Kathy Krickett Irizarry to get this room in working order once and for all. She's certainly going to have her hands full.
A look around the room reveals clutter in every possible nook and cranny. There's years and years worth of clutter here!
Irizarry is all set to turn this place around. She's got a lot of space to work with — the room is 22 feet long and 16 feet wide including the window seat, and has 11-foot ceilings. The first order of business is to establish the function the new room will have. Alexander says she wants it to be used as a family gathering/dining area and has a room cleared out upstairs that she suggests using for a new home office. It's a good start, so the pair goes gets to work sorting through all the junk that has taken over the room — it's quite a tall order.
