Decorative hairpieces are a great way to dress your hair (or hair you don't have).

Figure A
Hairstylist Cisco Ramirez provides tips for using decorative hairpieces.

  • Put on an add-on hairpiece to add volume and style. Just pull hair back into a ponytail, just below the crown, then add the piece (figure A).

  • For longer or thicker hair, make two ponytails, one above the other. Be sure to pin back any stray hairs. Unlock the combs and place the teeth of the combs, centered, over your ponytails. Position the teeth downward into the ponytail, and close the comb tightly to lock in place. It should feel comfortable but secure.

Figure B
  • Another style can be achieved by making a side ponytail and adding the hairpiece (figure B).

  • To put on a fall or 3/4 wig, pull back your hair into a small ponytail or use bobby pins to keep in place. For longer hair, secure with two to three flat pin curls.

  • Secure the front comb on the crown of your head at the point where you have separated your hair. Stretch the bottom comb down and anchor it at the nape of your neck. Add additional hair binders at two- to three-inch intervals on the fall to create an interesting look.

  • After wearing hold the add-on piece by the combs, shaking gently to separate the fibers. Always wash hairpieces in cold water.

    * Note: Frequent shampooing removes your hair's natural luster, so try to skip washings when possible.
