Claire Washington and her teenage son have a guest room they use for office work, homework, crafting, and bedding down the occasional houseguest. It has become a dumping ground for crafting, office supplies, photos, old furniture and clothes that don't fit. The bookcase holds a lot more than just books, and the closet is full of clothes that are too small for a growing teenager.
Removing the old furniture creates space in the room for a relaxing sitting area. New curtains emphasize the lovely bay window. The bed is now covered with fun pillows and a lively new spread instead of unfinished craft projects.
This desk, with its broken drawers and piles of CDs and supplies, can hardly be used for office work and homework.
The new 12-by 17-foot space includes a soft yellow-green coat of paint, new bedding, and a corner desk that holds supplies and provides a work surface for crafts.
