Before: Problems Abound
Mary and Bill Thomas have allowed their bedroom to become the No. 1 gathering spot for the family, and they want to put a stop to it and get back some of their privacy. They moved into this house two years ago and since then have been busy raising a teenager and two young kids, working full-time jobs and working on the rest of the house and landscaping, while sacrificing this room's needs. The Thomases need help getting things in order and redecorating, so they enlist professional organizer Susan Sabo. The plan is to create a calm and quiet getaway just for Mary and Bill, setting aside other spaces in the house for gathering.
A look around the rest of the room proves similar problems abound.
The furniture in the room is haphazardly scattered about and full of clutter, inside and out. It's almost more like a dorm room than a bedroom.
The closet is jam packed with family photos, clothes and a giant box of shoes. What's more, the doors are completely broken.
Mary wants the computer and television moved out of the bedroom to make way for a peaceful area in which to retreat, while Bill wants to keep the television. Sabo's plan is to foster a compromise for the couple. He keeps the television, but they buy an entertainment system to conceal it, and she gets a quiet reading area for herself. The bedroom and closet will undergo a full makeover into a fully functional yet relaxing area of the house.
