Bad Bench

The problem: a rickety, narrow bench unfit for human habitation and lacking any sort of amenities.

Sketch It Out

Jimmy's design calls for bench that's uniquely beautiful yet also functional for the coffee shop's clientele.

Frame

The frame of the bench is constructed of stout 4x4s held together by glue and lag bolts.

Get a Grip

The "hand" was carved from solid wood and sized to fit various sizes of coffee cups. The bench's other hand is a flat platform perfect for holding a laptop computer.

Waiting for Varnish

After final assembly, before receiving a coat of clear varnish that will protect the bench yet still allow the natural wood to show through.

All Aboard

The finished bench seats up to three, holds a cup of coffee, a laptop or writing pad and a newspaper.
