Tropical Bungalow Backyard

Tetine Sentell and Craig McHenry's backyard is muddy, boring and has little privacy. Landscape designer Carolyn Anderson creates a garden incorporating colorful softscapes. She also adds a tropical influence with a bamboo trellis and bench.

Bamboo is used to camouflage the shed lurking in the back corner, which helps integrate it into the space. A flagstone patio created out of decomposed granite and square pavers allows some function and softness within the dining and patio area. For the kids, they design a redwood stump jump and balance beams, which are surrounded by mulch for a soft landing.
