Upside-Down Tomatoes
The Topsy Turvy tomato planter is a vertically hanging grow-bag in which the tomato plant is planted upside-down with the roots pointing up and the leaves toward the ground. Water and fertilizer is fed through a top funnel and goes straight to the roots. The planter uses ordinary potting soil but since the soil is loose the plants quickly develop giant root structures. Since the plants are hanging, the tomatoes do not require staking, caging, tying or weeding. Small animals, ground insects, cutworms, fungus, blight and nematodes cannot get to the planter.
