Laura and Rutherford Seydel are building their new home to be as earth-friendly as possible, and they want the landscape to meet the same stringent standards. Features of the completed yard include a pair of underground cisterns that collect and reuse rainwater, a green roof of living plant material over the garage and recycled building materials spread throughout the planting beds. When it's finished, the home and yard will be one of the first in the country to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards.
