Coral Bells

Compact, evergreen perennials, coral bells are useful for year-round interest. Throughout the summer, the small, tubular, rich scarlet-crimson flowers 'Red Spangles,' shown here, add a splash of vibrant color to the garden. It matches well with 'Plum Pudding,' a cultivar with purple ruffled leaves and small white flowers, and silvery-leaved 'Pewter Moon.' The plant can grow up to 26 inches tall and 20 inches wide in ideal growing conditions: full or partial sun, and well-drained or moist soil. Coral bells look especially good spilling over onto a path, or included in a mixed or shrub border.
