Before: The landscape needs a complete renovation. The homeowner had hired someone to prune her shrubs and everything was taken down to the roots. She wants lots of color, a place to sit and a fountain.

After: It's a magical new world in this backyard--plenty of space to lounge and to entertain. There's plenty of color--including the house, the urns and the plants.

Homeowner Tina Marzell's backyard is dusty, overpruned, worn and lacks color. and what she'd really like is a lush and colorful place to spend time. Designer Ahmad Hassan creates a perfect plan, including an L-shaped pergola, stepping stones, lots of paint and a water feature.

Before: A storage shed and a lone tree now populate this dusty backyard. There's no color, no plants, no privacy and nowhere to sit.

After: A unique twig fence, fashioned from twigs hauled from a hillside clearing project nearby, adorns the newly painted storage shed.

After: A new L-shaped pergola gives structure to the yard, but it's not so big that it overpowers the design.

After: The new water feature provides pleasant background sounds and also doubles as a seating area.
