Double-flowering impatiens
You don't need a lot of patience to grow impatiens; in fact, this flawless flower shines in the shade. Because of its popularity, hybridizers have been busy at work creating a host of new varieties.

Standard impatiens feature a wide variety of color and size. For the size, pay attention to the label. Some are small and compact like the 'Super Elfin', while other are long and leggy like 'Red Blitz'.

If you like miniature roses, you'll love these double-flowering impatiens; the blooms sit high above the foliage and come in different colors, some even bi-colored. Also, there's the new 'Blackberry Ice' with double flowers and luscious foliage.

If you prefer a bigger bloom, then check out New Guinea impatiens. Not only are the flowers bigger, but the foliage is a very dark shiny green. They tolerate more sun than the others.

As far as planting goes, impatiens are sensitive to cold temperatures, so wait until all threats of frost are gone. Keep them well watered, pinch off dead blooms and feed them every couple of weeks with a fertilizer high in phosphorus.
