This Australian tree fern thrives in the indirect light provided by interior shutters.Horticulturist Randy Harelson has filled his rustic Florida cottage with his favorite plants: all types of ferns. He has perfected creating a hospitable growing environment for ferns with beautiful results.
A birds nest fern (Asplenium) makes the perfect centerpiece since it's symmetrical from all angles. Other ideas:
- To call attention to interesting architectural features, like a beamed ceiling, Harelson placed a Boston fern (Nephrolepis) on top of a wall to draw the eye up.
- Terra-cotta pots and wooden planters make perfect containers for ferns in rustic decor.
