All About

In less than 24 hours, a harsh concrete patio became a casual outdoor room. The makeover started with staining the concrete floor a slate color and the cinderblock walls a warm earth tone. Multi-leveled planters are used to divide the patio into two separate living areas. The side by the grill is more of a relaxing space, while the other side serves as a dining area with shade coverings overhead.

The old brick grill is cleaned up and transformed into a gas cooktop. Inexpensive burners are inserted and attached to a propane tank with a simple hose, then the burners are topped off with a new grill. The defunct fire pit in the middle of the patio becomes a beautiful centerpiece with the addition of a tiered planter. Simple mason jars are filled with sand and votive candles then placed around the whole area to illuminate the space. String lighting is crisscrossed above the patio, giving the space amibient light with festive attitude. Finally, large, masculine-style furniture pieces provide comfortable seating.

Tip: Concrete stain is a quick and simple way to improve the look of concrete in a really short amount of time. The stain dries almost instantly and is virtually goof-proof!
