Autumn Swag

Here's a great fall swag made of 'Sweet Annie', red broom corn millet, black seed millet and black sunflower.

1. Form a large base using greenery, tall grass or vine then add a layer of 'Sweet Annie'.

2. Place the base on top of the red broom corn millet to add contrast in color.

3. Layer on some black seed millet.

4. Bundle the botanicals together and tie with a couple of floral wires.

5. Add color and a rustic nature to swag by cutting branches of bittersweet and fanning them out across the top of the bundle.

6. For the finishing touch, add a sunflower. Wire the flower by folding back the stem and sliding floral wire between the seeds at the center of the head. Feed the wire back through to the back of the flower head. Wire the sunflower onto the bundled swag.

That's it! Don't worry if the swag isn't perfect—it's part of the charm of displaying fall flowers in a unique way. Also, when you've finished with the swag, offer it to the birds instead of throwing it away. They'll have a field day with it!
