Sometimes it is necessary to drill or cut holes into walls. Before taking a power tool and ripping a hole in your wall, you need to know the location of studs and electrical wires. A wall scanner will locate such obstructions.

Just hold the scanner against the wall, give it time to calibrate and then slowly move it across the wall. It will give you an indication on the display when it detects a stud or the presence of electricity. Mark areas where the scanner detects obstructions with a piece of tape. Though the scanner is very accurate, use extreme caution whenever drilling or cutting into a wall.
