Figure B
You can extend the life of sandpaper by up to five times by cleaning it with a block of sandpaper cleaner—a dense, composite material that works like a giant eraser. The eraser removes particles between the rough granules of sandpaper, keeping it from gumming up.

Clean the sandpaper of a belt sander by turning the sander on its side and securing it, then turn it on and run the eraser along the width (figure A).

For an orbital sander, secure the cleaning pad with a vice or clamps and gently press a running orbital sander down on the pad with a light touch. And remember to always wear eye protection and a dust mask when working with power sanders.
