You can extend the life of sandpaper by up to five times by cleaning it with a block of sandpaper cleaner, a dense, composite material that works like a giant eraser. The “eraser” removes particles between the rough granules of sandpaper, keeping it from gumming up.
To clean the sandpaper of a belt sander, turn the sander on its side and secure it, turn it on and run the eraser along the width.
For an orbital sander, secure the cleaning pad with a vise or clamps and gently press the running sander down on the pad.
Note: Always wear eye protection and a dust mask when working with power sanders.
