Figure C
Buying the right light bulbs can be confusing, but it's much simpler if you simply think about where the bulbs will be used.

A standard, soft 60-watt bulb is perfect for reading (figure A), while a clear 60-watt bulb goes better above a mirror (figure B).

Another bulb to consider is a compact fluorescent unit (figure C). Fluorescent bulbs rated at 25-watts will burn as bright as a standard 100-watt incandescent unit. Though more expensive than standard bulbs, a fluorescent bulb can last up to five years with normal use.

A yellow 60-watt bulb doesn’t attract bugs and is excellent to use out on the patio. Another choice for outdoor use is a halogen spotlight bulb. It's filled with a gas and burns cleaner, brighter and longer.
