Toolbox: Center Finder Drill Bit

A center finder drill bit is especially helpful when making cabinet repairs or installing new hinges. If a screw misses the center when installing a hinge, the hinge will be either loose or misaligned.

A center finder bit has a tapered shaft on the outside and a spring-loaded bit on the inside.

Just align the shaft on the outside of the hole, start the drill and push for a hole that's perfectly centered. Center finder bits come in a variety of sizes to fit various hinges and jobs.
