Spicy Southwestern Party Patio

Southwestern touches abound and play off the Mexican tiles used in the countertop.

Kathy Nieto and Kathy Lyle found the best way to beat back the summer heat when entertaining outdoors in their Tucson, Ariz., home was to start with a swimming pool. Then they added a colorful Southwestern kitchen to create the ultimate outdoor party area.

The pool beats the daytime heat, while the kitchen heats up the evenings.

Functional highlights of the kitchen include a grill, an oven and a tortilla warmer, which was handed down from Nieto's grandmother. Besides the kitchen, the space features dining and sitting areas so everyone's sure to find a comfortable spot.
