A vase slipcover, a purse, a jewel box, lampshade and picture frame are some of the things that can be made from an outdated bridesmaid dress.
Craft designer Tracey Dale demonstrates how to give new life to the old bridesmaid dress hanging in the back of the closet. Most dresses use fabric with body and sheen, and when the dress is taken apart, the fabric is perfect for a variety of projects.

Lampshade Cover

Materials:

old bridesmaid dress
scissors
lampshade
spray adhesive
clothespins
decorative trim
decorative beads

Steps:

PHOTO

  1. Cut the fabric in the shape of the lampshade, leaving an inch or two extra at the top and bottom for hems, and attach it to the shade with spray adhesive (see photo at right).

  2. Make a few snips around the fabric at the top to make it easier to fold it over and tuck it in.

  3. Fold up the bottom and hold in place with clothespins while the adhesive dries.

  4. Attach trim such as beads with a glue gun.

Photo Album

Cover a picture album with the fabric (perhaps even a wedding album), attaching with spray adhesive. Add decorative details such as pearls on string.
