How do you take a charming old house that's not living up to its potential and really make it shine from the street? Sheri Huebner is a first time homeowner who really wants to do something with the front of her house. She'll add some new paint, lay down some tile and add some low-cost carpentry. Huebner really wants to landscape the yard and do a little fixing up. Designer Cathy Riordan has some ideas to bring out the best in this house. Here's how they accomplish it:
- Tear out the plants and add soft color plants and long grasses; re-seed and fertilize the grass.
- Paint the house light brown and the trim details in plum.
- Add slate tile to the front walkway.
- Remove the old screen door and replace it with a new phantom screen door.
- Refinish the existing door.
- Add details like a new doorbell and mailbox.
- A trellis to go along the entry to help climbing vine grow.
- A new porch light goes up, a chair and some copper path lights.
