Georgian style was popular in the Colonies and in England. In 1775, talk of rebellion had turned to war in Boston. The Georgian-style home of Josiah Quincy would prove invaluable to the fight for freedom thanks to its exceptional view of the harbor. In his attic, with a spyglass in hand, Quincy would secretly assist General George Washington.
Georgian style, with symmetrical windows and doors, was popular in the Colonies and in England, as well. The top portion of the house, called a monitor, provided Quincy with a striking view of his property.
Today, the home is furnished with pieces belonging to the Quincy family, including a Chippendale settee. Quincy's most treasured piece, an extraordinary Japanned High Chest, has the distinction of surviving two house fires.
