Gilda Dingler came to Marion, Virginia, looking for a place to stage an antiques show. But instead she found a forgotten treasure to call home. Her 1935 Colonial-style post office was built as part of President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal program. The two-story space provided the perfect opportunity for Dingler to make her home upstairs and open an antiques shop downstairs.

The exterior of the building is unchanged, and people still occasionally knock at the door looking to mail their letters. Many parts of the building are the same, such as the original walnut and marble foyer, but Dingler has made a few changes. The old loading dock has been converted into an inviting patio, and she faced a bit of a challenge when it came to fitting both a bathroom and tiny kitchen into the space that used to be the employee restroom. For Dingler the old post office is letter-perfect, and no matter where she travels it will always be her return address.
