Guests may have a little trouble finding Charlene and Don Zwonitzer's home near the town of Kimball in western Nebraska. That's because the couple live 20-feet below ground in a converted Atlas E missile site. The couple has cleverly converted the 26,000-square-foot former military facility into a futuristic home. The old command center is now their living room, and former crew quarters are now guest rooms.

Charlene has even converted the flame pit, a room meant to contain the flame from a rocket launch, into a lovely conservatory. The entire house is managed by a futuristic computer system. The Zwonitzers realize most homes aren't equipped with escape hatches and 120-foot-long tunnels, but they wouldn't want to live any other way.
