Clayton and Starr Bright rescued an abandoned boathouse on Maine's Islesford Island and turned it into a cozy home. The 1910 boathouse features 17-foot high doors where boats used to enter, which the couple retained to lend authenticity to the home. They also used wire once used for lobster traps along the stairway, and artist Clayton upheld a New England tradition by painting designs on the floor of each room.

The Brights worked with contractor Chuck Bucklin to tackle the challenge of constructing a home in a building that was so rundown that it actually swayed in the wind. Thanks to the efforts, the couple has preserved a part of New England history.
