The homeowners relocated to Florida from the Boston area and wanted to create their own Sunshine State paradise. They wanted the main body of the house to be bright and open and needed guest bedrooms for frequent visitors from the chilly north. They wanted the focus of the home to be outside, toward the water, to take advantage of the beautiful location along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Architect Kevin Akey's design created wide, open living spaces on the first floor and lots of bedrooms on the new second floor. The renovation also added a two-story atrium and an observation deck. The exterior received a dramatic change, not only with a second floor but also with a whole new look. The public space of the home takes advantage of the great location with huge windows and an outdoor kitchen and living area. Highlights of the home include the whimsical master suite and third floor observation deck.
