Images of Christmas generally include a blanket of snow outside, a toasty fire inside and maybe some hot apple cider. But in Hawaii, you need to substitute sand for snow, throw a few ice cubes in that eggnog and fire up the air conditioner. And it's easier to get in the spirit of the season when your home is decked out with about 30,000 lights and 250 cartoon characters.
"We have tours through the house from the Monday after Thanksgiving until New Year's," says Annette. "The outside is all Disney® characters and we started some 25 years ago.
"This year on the inside of our house will be a new and different theme, as there is each year. This year's theme is 'Island Under the Sea.' The living room will have two trees decorated with hundreds of colorful jeweled fish."
Other fantastical treats awaiting visitors are a huge Christmas aquarium, a real tree decked out in island flair, orchids throughout the house and Annette's collection of angles. All this and she says it only takes about four days to set up the hundreds of pieces in the display.
Annette says she hopes people are inspired by the display to remember the true meaning of Christmas, that of sharing openly and unconditionally.
"Christmas has always been the most delightful holiday of the year. I love decorating and I enjoy people."
