Some people dream of creating not just a home, but a complete history. Jake and K.C. Covert decided to write their very own story long before their house was built. Set high in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, this 3500-square-foot farmhouse looks like it's been around forever with a number of additions that appear to have grown over the years as a family would grow and need the extra space.
But in reality, every aspect of this home was planned long before it was built and it was built all at once. Steven and Kathi House, a pair of design builders, helped the Coverts create a story of an "original house proper" where the family, kitchen and master suite form the living areas. They then imagined where the additions would have needed to be built and added three distinct areas.
The high ceiling living room and stair form the "Barn" with additional bedrooms, office and laundry as the "Addition." The garage and dining room are "Sheds" that link and complete the farmhouse. The materials used through out the entire compound were picked carefully not only to blend in with the landscape, but to give the feeling of being constructed at different times. The end result is a beautiful farmhouse that feels like it has been handed down as a legacy but has really only been around for one generation.
