Georgian Colonial

Bed & Bath Design : Episode BDE-1213 -- More Projects »
Kim and Drew Conway built an elegant Georgian Colonial home that has the look and feel of period architecture. Architect Patrick Ahearn helped them create a large master suite that includes a spacious bedroom, entry hall to the bath flanked by his-and-her walk-in-closets, and a large marble bath. Host Joan Kohn takes a look.

The bathroom’s focal point is the large tub situated in front of large windows.
  • The master suite is entered through double doors off a large second-story formal gallery. One end of the room is designed to be viewed from the galley and serves as a circulation area to the balcony. The other, more private end of the room has the bed, fireplace and seating area.
  • Three gold and crystal chandeliers are used in the suite. The largest is in the bedroom and is visible from the galley. The second is in the hall leading to the bath and is complemented by cove lighting. The third is in the bath itself.
  • The flooring in the bedroom is solid red oak. Large area rugs help define the public and private spaces of the room.
  • The mantel is antique hard-carved marble. It has a raised hearth that blends with the molding used in the room.
  • The hall to the bath is entered through patio doors that can close off the dressing area when needed. Two large closets are located on either side of the hall.
  • The large bath features white marble floors, counters and steam shower. The whirlpool tub is the room’s focal point. Separate mahogany vanities on either side of the room provide plenty of personal space for the couple. Large gilt antique mirrors are used over the vanities, which are complemented by the gold faucets.
