Lessons Learned: Remodeling Tips

*One of this homeowner's biggest surprises through the remodeling process was a loss of privacy. The crew had a key available at all times and had open access to her home and office, which had the effect of slight paranoia on Kay. Make sure and talk to your contractor about how workers will enter and exit the jobsite and discuss solutions to minimize access to sensitive areas of your home.

*Keep your builder apprised of any realistic "drop dead" dates for completion that you may have. Kay wanted to entertain guests on Thanksgiving and the project was completed a week before. But she did have to make sacrifices in order to meet this deadline. Work was not supposed to happen on weekends, but with inevitable setbacks that happen on almost every project, Kay had to allow for it having decided her Thanksgiving deadline was more important.
