French Manor in Tennessee

Dream Builders : Episode DRB-1113 -- More Projects »
Robbin and Mark Tillman's new home looks traditional on the outside, but it features some of the best in contemporary building. Constructed with both wood and steel framing, the four level house sits on the 7th hole of a golf course in Brentwood, Tenn. To take advantage of the view, architect Mitchell Barnett designed all the main rooms in an octagon shape with lots of windows.

Another eye-catching feature is the floating staircase in the entryway. Builder Will Fort says the staircase was completely constructed on site and is reinforced with a system of steel cables and eye bolts. There’s also a storm shelter constructed of concrete underneath the limestone-covered foyer. The exterior of the house is covered in 2-1/2 inches genuine stucco to protect it from storms and stray golf balls. The roof has 18 pitches, providing yet another challenge for the builder. In the story, we’ll meet the Tillmans, Barnett and Fort and learn more about the construction of this home built to a tee.
