Flexible Framing

Dream Builders : Episode DRB-1106 -- More Projects »
Curved walls and barrel ceilings look great, but they are difficult and time-consuming to install. Now, thanks to a new invention, builders have another framing option. This new system uses metal channel with vertebra-like sections that are easily shaped into a variety of curves or undulating patterns.

Tabs on each plate hold metal straps that form flanges on both sides of the channel. Self-tapping screws are placed through guide-holes on each tab, and once the screws pierce the flange straps, the track is locked into the desired curve. After the tracks are locked and fastened into their final positions, studs are positioned and screwed into place as for other steel track systems. Designers of the track say it saves 60-80% of the time typically required to build a curved structure.
