The Edmondston-Alston House features a commanding view of the harbor and was one of the first grand homes to be built along the waterfront location of the High Battery. Charles Edmondston built his home in 1825, though during the panic of 1837 he was forced to sell to Charles Alston, a member of an established rice-planting dynasty.
