Sylvia and Wayne Kerber were married for almost 30 years when they bought the building where Sylvia found her wedding dress. After the kids were grown and gone, the Kerbers bought the 4-story former bridal salon and beauty shop in downtown Binghamton, N.Y. The couple worked side-by-side for three years to turn the space into a home like no other.
Unusual touches include a beauty shop door complete with a Barbicide sticker that serves as the entry to the powder room. The original bridal gown closets remain downstairs, while Wayne cut 15-foot sections out of the upper floors to create a vast atrium. For this couple, the one-time dress shop is a perfect fit.
