This efficient galley kitchen is enlivened with interesting colors and textures.Host Joan Kohn tours the updated, efficient kitchen in Lin Coughlin’s renovated shingle-style carriage house. Designer Jean Courtney opened up the galley kitchen to the rest of the downstairs living area and helped give the space an inviting, unique look with a creative use of color and texture.
A graceful archway opens up the galley kitchen to the living and dining area. The arched shape is repeated in the adjacent wall mural.- To make the compact kitchen feel larger, the doorway into the rest of the living space was exaggerated with a graceful arch. The shape of the arch is repeated in the new door at the other end of the kitchen. Replacing a window, the rustic door is based on an Irish design and has oversized hardware, a lacy glass sidelight, and is painted a deep rich green color.
Formerly white, the kitchen cabinets are now painted soft green with an aged patina, and panels are used as a canvas for images of baskets and old pots.We Recommend...
