Jim Burkholder grew up in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. After leaving the military, he and his wife were visiting home for the holidays when they learned the old elementary school Burkholder attended as a child was for sale. It was a spur of the moment decision, but they decided to buy the boarded up, rundown, 8,000-square-foot school.
