On his elbow grease scale of one to four, Harrison gives this project a two.
Materials and Tools:
jigsaw
pullsaw
hacksaw blade
caulk gun and caulk
tape
carpenter’s square
screwdrivers
circular saw
drill and paddle bits
towels
pattern wheel
markerpencil
safety glasses
high-end sink and faucet
plywood
wood glue
wood screws
Steps:
1. Use the carpenter’s square to center and line up the template that came with the sink on the top of the buffet. Tape the template down.
3. Use the pattern wheel to trace the outline for your sink cutout. Use just enough pressure so the pattern wheel leaves indentations in the top of the buffet.
5. Use a marker pin to draw an outline for the sink cutout on the buffet top. Follow the indentations made by the pattern wheel.
6. Unscrew top and remove from the buffet so you can install a plywood reinforcement on the underside of the top. Cut a piece of plywood to fit on the underside of the top and surround the area where the sink will fit and also over the area where the fixtures will mount.
7. Run a bead of wood glue along the perimeter of the plywood and screw to the underside of the buffet top with wood screws.
8. Reattach top to the buffet.
9. Drill a hole large enough to allow you to insert a jigsaw blade just inside of the sink outline on the buffet top. Use the jigsaw to cut through both the buffet top and the plywood reinforcement piece.
10. Run a bead of caulk along the opening and drop your sink into place.
11. Use the paddle bit to bore holes for the fixtures.
