Designer Erinn Valencich puts wrapped gifts to work as stylish stocking holders. Erinn wrapped weighted boxes with colorful paper embellished with fabric ribbon and glass ornaments. Get step-by-step instructions to make your own.Materials and Tools:
8-10 boxes of varying sizes and shapes
2 rolls of wrapping paper
scissors
clear tape
2-3 colors of coordinated ribbon in varying widths
16" wreath hangers (one for each stocking)
rocks or other items to weight down boxes
plastic containers or heavy-duty plastic bags
newspaper or bubble wrap
wired glass ball clusters, silk flowers, holiday greenery or other decorative elements
Steps:
1. Place rocks into plastic containers or heavy-duty plastic bags and place rock-filled containers into boxes filled with wadded up newspaper or bubble wrap, this will keep the rock-filled container from shifting around. Create one rock-filled box for each stocking hanger. Make sure that the weight is heavy enough to hold a filled stocking. The remainder of the boxes should be empty; these will be stacked on top of the weighted boxes to create a fuller mantel-top arrangement.
2. Wrap both rock-filled and empty boxes with wrapping paper. Add color coordinated ribbons and embellishments, such as wired glass ornament clusters, to each. For a more decorative look, vary the ribbons and embellishments used on each box.
3. Evenly space weighted boxes on mantle. Straighten the over-the-door end of a wreath hanger, so it will lay flat on the mantel and slide a wreath hanger under each weighted box.
4. Pile lighter boxes on top of the heavier ones to create an attractive arrangement. Place decorations, such as ornaments, silk flowers or greenery around and between boxes. Finally, hang stockings on hangers.
