Materials:
2 aluminum cans
scissors
ice pick
string
metal glue
permanent marker
stretchy sequined fabric
needle and thread
rulerSteps:
1. Poke a hole in the side of each can and cut them in half. Trim the top half of each can to 1-1/4 inch from the top rim using a paper template for measuring (figure A).2. Place the ruler against the side of one can top and slightly dent around the edge (figure B).
4. Cut sequined fabric into a 2-1/4" x 7-1/4" rectangle so it stretches lengthwise. Glue one short edge of the fabric to the can. Place a bead of glue along the top and bottom edge of the can. Stretch the fabric around the can and glue in place. Fit the edge of the fabric against the can edge. Color the metal edge with the permanent marker (figure D).
5. Trim the bottom of each can down to the center circle to create two buttons. Poke two holes in each button (figure E).
6. Cut two circles 3 inches in diameter from the sequined fabric. Baste a running stitch along each edge (figure F).
7. Place one button inside the fabric and pull the thread to gather the fabric around the button (figure G).
8. Cut 12 inches of string. Thread the string through the holes in one button so the string is on the concave side of the button (figure H). Fish the strings through the mouth holes in the cans.
9. Place the second button in the second sequined circle. Pull the thread and tie the ends to secure. Thread each string on the needle. Push each string through the holes in the button. Fit the button into the can top and tie the string close to the button (figure I). Tie the string ends a few inches away from the Christmas ornament to hang.
