Materials and Tools:
black foam board
scissors
bat template
clear fishing line
glow-in-the-dark paint
paintbrush
tree branches
decorative urn
black light bulb
awl, large nail or hole punch
Spanish moss
florists' foam
black spray paint
hot-glue gun and glue sticks
Steps:
1. Gather tree branches, if possible, select one with dried seed pods or dead leaves still attached. Paint branches with black spray paint and allow to dry.
2. Fill urn with florists' foam, securing foam with hot glue. Stick branches into foam, cover top of foam with hot glue and then add a decorative layer of Spanish moss.
3. Trace bat template
onto black foam board and cut out several bat shapes. Add a coat of glow-in-the-dark paint to both sides of bat cutouts and allow to dry.
4. Punch a small hole in the tops of the bats; keep the hole centered between the bat's ears so it will hang level. Insert fishing line and tie bats at various levels to branches.
5. To really get the glow-in-the-dark effect, replace the light source nearest the centerpiece with a black light bulb.
