Materials and Tools:

1 black umbrella
4 pairs of child-size black tights
pillow stuffing
black and white felt
lots of suction cups in varying sizes
black electrical tape
hot-glue gun and glue sticks
scissors

Steps:

1. Make the octopus legs by filling four pairs of black tights with pillow stuffing. Tip: Tights work better than pantyhose because they keep their dark color even when stretched out.

2. Add electrical tape to the crotch area and top of each leg of the tights. This sounds crazy, but it will keep the nylon from running when the four pairs of tights are cut in half to create eight legs. Cut each pair of tights in half.

3. Glue the various-sized suction cups to the octopus legs. Mimic the appearance of real octopus legs by keeping the suction cups on one side only.

4. Attach the legs to the underside of the umbrella with black electrical tape.

5. Give the octopus a bit of character by adding oversized eyes to the top of the umbrella. Center a small black felt circle on a large white circle and attach both to the umbrella with hot glue.
